SaveChat is a local-first, completely free Chrome extension that lets you save and organize ChatGPT responses in one click. No login required. We designed SaveChat to keep your data on your device by default and to avoid any collection beyond what you explicitly choose to save.
1) Information We Collect
SaveChat processes only the information you choose to save or configure while using the extension:
- Saved chat content: Text and basic metadata (e.g., page title, timestamp) that you choose to store.
- Preferences & settings: Options such as sorting or UI choices stored locally.
SaveChat does not collect your browsing history, keystrokes, or personal information automatically.
2) How We Use the Information
The information is used solely to provide core functionality: saving, organizing, searching, and exporting your chats for your personal use. We do not use the information for advertising or profiling.
3) Data Storage & Retention
- Local-first storage: Saved chats and preferences are stored using the Chrome
storageAPI on your device. - Chrome Sync (optional): If you enable Chrome Sync, your data may sync with your Google account in accordance with Google’s policies.
- Retention: Your data remains until you delete it from within the extension or clear your browser storage.
4) Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. Data does not leave your device unless you export it, enable Chrome Sync, or otherwise choose to share it.
5) Third-Party Services & Remote Code
SaveChat does not include analytics, advertising SDKs, or trackers, and it does not execute remote code. The extension may fetch non-executable data (e.g., page titles or favicons) necessary for features, but it does not download or run third-party scripts at runtime.
6) Permissions
- activeTab: Lets SaveChat act on the current tab after you invoke the extension.
- host permissions: Required to read visible chat content on supported sites at your request.
- scripting: Inserts a content script to capture the chat content you choose to save.
- storage: Stores your saved chats and preferences locally (and optionally via Chrome Sync).
We request only the minimum scope necessary, and scripts are injected only after user action.
7) Your Choices & Controls
- Delete saved items from within the extension at any time.
- Disable Chrome Sync to keep all data only on your device.
- Clear your browser’s site data or extension storage to remove all local data.
8) Children’s Privacy
SaveChat is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
9) Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect product or legal changes. Material updates will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of SaveChat after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
